Short pest overview:

It’s a monophagous pest of mulberry. This moth is a species from the family Crambidae. The wingspam is about 20 mm. The larvae are a pest of Morus species.


Geographic Distribution:

This pest is found in Iran, China, Japan, India, Indonesia (Sumatra), Sri Lanka, Taiwan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique and North America, where it has been recorded from Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.


Life Cycle:

The mean total developmental period from egg to adult is 35.40 ± 0.37 days. The maxi mum adult longevity is 7 and 11 days for males and females, respectively. The pre-oviposition period last 2.14 ± 0.04 days. Laboratory observation showed that adults are nocturnal and female lay eggs at night. Life expectancy of freshly laid egg was 32.15 days.
